She’s one of the founders of achingly cool Tiba + Marl (think nappy bags with serious fashion clout) and she’s a mother of two. When Lydia Barron isn’t taking over the maternity realm one covetable bag at a time, she’s hunting down vintage Polly Pockets on eBay. In short, we love
Number of kids?
Two. Mabel is four and Elwood 11 months.
Worst mothering moment?
Breast-feeding my son when we both had Norovirus, not fun!
Best mothering moment?
So many… the hilarious chats with my daughter everyday on the way to school, experiencing my son learning to talk, watching them bond (and fight), the reams of brilliant drawings my daughter does.
Dinner party or play date?
Dinner party; we are still desperately clinging to this. Luckily a few of our friends and family have similar aged kids and we often do an early dinner all together. It’s a mash-up of great conversation, mess and mayhem!
Home or away?
Home. I used to travel all over the world with work and it’s frighteningly easy to get complacent. Since having kids that stopped. My husband and I made a promise to each other to get out of London as often as possible – we all go on great day trips to the beach, the woods, national parks, castles etc. most weekends… and you’ve got to love a car picnic!
Can’t live without?
Music, tea, my Klean Kanteen bottle, Aēsop hand cream, coconut oil (I use it for EVERYTHING, cooking, spreading on toast, makeup remover, moisturiser, baby massage balm, nappy rash cream, the list goes on), my Oyster card, my iphone (it’s invaluable for getting all my work done on the move), my husband, my Fürst mechanical pencil, Papermate black markers, my school mum friends (for constantly saving my skin when I’m running late for pick-up and helping me laugh through the after-school melt downs).
Can’t live with?
Slugs and people that take themselves too seriously.
What’s the last thing you bought?
Camo Nike Roshe Runs, Adidas Slides, a cream egg, grey marl Zara jumpsuit for my daughter and vintage Polly Pockets from Ebay.
Last call?
I facetime’d my mum, she lives in France. Anna and I text each other constantly – its like a stream of consciousness!
Most pukka thing you own?
Black Swarovski crystal encrusted python Miu Miu killer heels.
Most annoying thing other mother’s say?
I cant really think of anything. Mothers Meeting has introduced me to so many amazing mums, all bonded in the trials and tribulations of motherhood, in the power we all possess as women, as individuals and as mothers.
Mothering is?
My best achievement. It’s grounding. Who knew you could feel such powerful love, frustration, joy and extreme tiredness all at the same time! Oh, and always having at least one wriggling space invader in the bed!
Check out Mother Pukka next week for co-founder of Tiba + Marl, Anna McDonald’s interview.
