It’s not that we’re advocating getting mash-up while in charge of a small human, but there’s nothing wrong with a little light parenting with a pint. But you need the right set-up/baby changing facilities/kids menu to make it a fun endeavour and not something that drives you to the hard stuff.
And that’s where The Red Lion in Leytonstone – yep it’s East people – comes in. With a massive sand-based outdoor pub garden, flanked with kiddie-friendly (ish) – think Donald Duck nursing a cocktail – graffiti, it’s that perfect middle ground between adult and urchin play time.
The baby changing facilities are all present and correct, while a plate of sausages and mash with peas kept the lil’ one schtum. Against a backdrop of knackered velvet sofas and antiquated bits ‘n’ bobs, there’s also the requisite East London craft beers, including Red Squirrel and Punk IPA to keep hipsters happy.
With Scrabble, Monopoly and Articulate game sets dotted about the place and a healthy ratio of kids to adults, it’s just about redefining your playground.
